Christmas Eve Cookies and Cousins!

After a long day of traveling because of weather and detours, we arrived safely at my parents' house on the Tuesday before Christmas!

My brother's family arrived and the grandkids got busy making Christmas cookies with Grandma!

We celebrated Christmas Eve together by opening gifts after lunch on Wednesday!

Pre-Christmas Colorado Adventure

What better way to lead up to the Christmas holiday than a trip to Colorado for a wedding?!
I had a 2nd cousin getting married so we headed West on the Saturday before Christmas. We drove all the way to Colorado Springs and enjoyed spending time with family at the hotel, doing some shopping and dining (out hotel was located in the middle of a major shopping area) and making memories!!

The kids loved swimming in the hotel pool with daddy!

And with their Cousins too!!

Unfortunately when the day of the wedding came (Sunday), I came down with the stomach flu and had to stay back at the hotel while Chuck took the kids to the wedding with the rest of my family. I was so bummed that I missed seeing lots of other family...and the bride!! But, I felt pretty terrible so I guess that made it easy to stay put and in bed!

We left The Springs on Monday and traveled to Pueblo to stay with Chuck's sister Lavender and her husband Jeff.

We all had a good time hanging out together!

Uncle Jeff brought his old Lego's up from the basement!!
The kids LOVED this!!

Or maybe the big kids liked it more?! :-)

After a nice lunch on Monday, we all headed out to see the Royal Gorge Bridge!
I had visited this once when I was a kid but it was good to go back and be reminded...and take my own family there....well, since Chuck did all the driving, I guess technically he took us there! :-)

The Bridge on a Beautiful winter day!

We walked half way across the bridge and it was very chilly and windy!!
Once we got off the Bridge then the weather was more bearable!

A wildfire came through this area last year and destroyed 48 of 52 structures that were located here.
There are still remnants of the fire and they are in the process of rebuilding.
Part of the reason we didn't walk all the way across the bridge was because it was cold and there wasn't much of anything to see on the other side as it all burnt down.

After we left Royal Gorge, we headed back towards Pueblo. But, first Jeff took us on a scenic route overlooking Canon City:
This is definitely a narrow road that you do not want to drive fast on...we were way up there too!

Jeff took us through the State Park that he works at near Pueblo also.
Kieran was in charge of picture taking at this point! He wanted to take some pictures to show his classmates what he did on Christmas break:

Tuesday morning we headed back to Nebraska to spend Christmas Eve with my family....
We had some blowing snow on a few of the roads but when we stopped in Limon, CO to get lunch, the roads we needed to head north were closed because of the blowing snow!
We ended up taking a detour south into KS...eventually we made it to my parents house and we were so thankful!
It was a very long day in the car and the kids did great!!

Even with the little hiccups during the trip, we were thankful it worked out for us to go and what a fun way to start the week of Christmas!
